Clipping is the idea that when a signal goes past typically zero is when we use clipping, but there's a lot of plug-ins that like emulates the lowering of zero. If you have two competing signals, say your kick and bass tracks, you can use specific forms of distortion to separate the two. Let's say both have a fundamental at 60 Hertz,.
