The Role of Lou Dobbs in Media Defamation
David Gergen: This is probably the most important major media defamation case in a generation. The line, obviously, of electoral fraud, Trump had invoked it in the weeks before the 2016 election when I think he thought he was going to lose. He began sowing the waters prior to 2020 in the same way. And then you have Lou Dobbs basically laying out there in the suspicions of a lot of Americans, quote unquote, these machines might be part of a fraud. It's mixing a belief with an assertion of fact that is perhaps founded in a belief but presented to the public as though it is true.
