Is There a Cynicism When People Buy Insurance?

I don't think anybody should live their life thinking about only the dark depressing events that could open their life. People are not thinking about the eventual trip to the hospital that eventually wipe out probably years of saving sometimes. So how exactly does one go about getting acquainted with insurance in detail so that you know exactly what an insurance is going to come in useful for, and what it's not will be useful for such as like an emergency hospitalization?
