In this chapter, Linda finds out that Bert had tricked her twice, first with the forged divorce papers and then by verbally abusing and manipulating her. After realizing this, Linda decides to end things with Bert and tells him that she wants nothing to do with him. However, after a few days, she agrees to meet him for lunch and they fall back into their old routine. Linda describes feeling trapped and afraid of Bert's power over her.
