The Leadership Conference and the White Supremacy

The conference was created to confront obstructionists, segregationists in congress. They often had a good deal of institutional power to keep civil rights legislation from progressing. Much of their work was legislative strategy and coordinating with pro civil rights members of congress. The inspiration from other social movement activity that was taking place outside of the halls of congress had inspired presidents and legislators to take action.
