The Limits and Possibilities of Reason

Edward's consistently used the words agreeable to reason when discussing the proving of Christian doctrine. The truths themselves are inferences from the general proposition and not capable of being proved by themselves independent of the general proposition. It seems much the most rational to suppose, he would say, in another place. But numberless truths are known only by consequence from that general proposition that the testimony of our senses may be depended on.
