The division of knowledge into two methodological zones dates from the late 18 hundreds, and specifically from the formation of those institutional structures in the german university. And again, part of the argument in the book is not that this is some kind of bad of thinking that denegrates the humanities as a kind of particularistic field of knowledge. But rather that this way of thinking about the humanities, science divides, emerges from within the humanities themselves,. Used tofromit within the humanitieis to describe what make makes the humanities better than sciences.
