Is There a Rhetoric of Extinction?

There's a set of resource depletion arguments. We say like, tumb resource x, sometimes it's phosphorus or fossil fuels is running out. And then were we're going to collapse. Some o people then like say, and that goes to extinction. But the story either doesn't work, or it has to pass through something else. Like war happening at the same time and causing extinction? I don't see how this can be true. There are no obvious way in which this could actually happen for the major resource of people. That's not the end of the world, is not human extinction. No one will starve just by feeding the food to humans, and not like letting it rot
