The Trilobites - A Trilobite or a Trident?
Wallisorops trifocatus had three prongs resembling a trident sticking out of the front of its head. Scientists didn't know why these appendages were there, but thought they might help it forage for food. A mutant fossil with a fourth prong has given weight to a different theory entirely. It is that these prongs were the first ever instance of animals equipping themselves with weapons so they can tool up and fight for a mate.
