Black Elk's Ueepi Ceremony
Ueepi practitioners use sleight of hand, ventriloquism or someone anonymously functioning as the practitioner's assistant. Stelton Camp: Black Elk wasn't comfortable using deception in his Ueepi ceremonies and so he gave it up. In many cultures, medicine men and shamans will often prime the pump by using tricks at the beginnings of their performances. The idea is that you need to get the participants in a certain state of mind in order to have anything genuinely supernatural happen.
