Berry was one of the most important people in early rock and roll, but his work either went uncredited or unpaid. Riot in Cell Block No. 9 cemented Berry's reputation within the industry as someone who would be able to turn in a good vocal on someone else's record. The song became a massive hit, though Berry never saw much money from it.
