Do you find looking back at the books that you've done, the thesis for the book becomes clearer over time? Or is it something that you feel you start with? I'm not great at, I don't think about theme as I write a novel, at least not in the first draft. Second and third drafts are where I start knowing what I'm doing and what the book is about. And then you can start layering, layering those things in as you understand what it is you're saying.
