Neutrons Are Stable, but What Are They?
The only thing lighter than a proton that has a puzzitle electric charge is an anti electron or a positon. And so the decay of a proton would have to be ino something like a positron, maybe nutrinos, which have almost zero mass,. and maybe photons, which have zero mass. If you were able to pluck a neutron out from a nucleus, the neutron will decay, and its lifetime is around 15 minutes. A free neutron undergoes bata decay where you get out electrons and antinutrinos. It's usually thought of as being due to the exchange of these particles for pyons.
