What Could Butter Have Done Differently?
The Supreme Court said that you cannot force margarine to be dyed crazy colors. But what it did leave open was that margarine could be stopped from being dyed yellow. So margarine companies started selling their margarine pure white and then they sold a little yellow capsule along with it, which people could mix into the margarine in order to look like butter. And for like 50 something years margarine sales actually outpaced butter sales; butter really struggled.
