The Impetus to Deactivate Organisms in Blood Products
There is always the potential for new and emerging pathogens to enter into human populations. The HIV epidemic served as a call, a clarion call on the need to address blood safety in a way perhaps different than what we had been doing up until that point. I think another aspect is too that we tend to look at this from the standpoint of high income or high-end income index nations where a lot of technologies have been put in place over the years.
