There's definitely genuine ignorance here. There's a long tradition of people saying once you've got this ignorance, you've got a place where probability talk can get its foot in the door. Usually when we make probabilistic claims, we're dealing with a conception of probability which is related to a frequency that is probabilities have consequences about frequencies. Probabilities are explanatory of frequencies. For reasons like that, frequency measurements can be confirmatory or disconferometry of probability claims.
