The Pacing Challenge: China, Taiwan, and the Defense Budget

We've sort of just silently gone away from the idea that terrorism is driving the defense budget in important ways. I think you talk in the book about trying to wind this thing down because it's manageable at a kind of peacetime level of effort with some small tactical exceptions here and there. But China is really driving the discussion. If we ever get in a land war in Asia, again, shame on us. That would be so as strategic. Hey, could happen. We all should be concerned about it. You know, people should not be subjected to totalitarian, authoritarian regimes imposing their will. At the end of the day, we don't like bullies. Because we're Americans. We
