method acting is based on lee strasburg's belief that actors need to be a blank slate before they can truly embody the life of another person. My acting teacher is elaine akin, in her late fifties, her early sixties. She believes in me the way i know my parents are trying to. At one point she looks at me with those intente, no nonsense eyes, after class, you're not just going to be an actor, she says. You're going to be a writer, you're going to direct and do a lot of different things in this business.
