The mentor usually has more skills and more knowledge. You have to get killed the person who could do it better than they can. It's, you know, it happens in basically every hero's journey movie or book that comes. Do we want to do anything about this? Well, again, this might not be a great example because everyone knew Dumbledore was going to die.
