The Cost of Compassion
The work that I'm trying to do now around compassion feels even more difficult than forgiveness for people who are cruel to me. That is the hardest compassion work. Because I'm so mean, so mean to myself, and I berate myself,. The barometer should not just be being alive. Compassion should be like, hey, you did what you had to do to make what you thought was a good life at that time. Forgive because you didn't have access to the knowledge, to the relationships, to the care that you do now.
