Predicting Flu Outbreaks Using Social Media Conversations

Researchers use a deep learning computer model to accurately predict flu outbreaks up to two weeks in advance by analyzing linguistic cues from Twitter conversations about non-flu-related topics. The study outperformed other models based on word searches or clinical data and could help officials take early action to reduce flu-related deaths.
