Marie De Guanee - A Woman of Letters

Marie de Guanee was a French woman of letters in the 17th century. She advised Schurman not to spend too much time on ancient languages like Latin and Greek, or Hebrew at all. These passages may indicate a receding of humanist ambitions from the high point of the 15th and 16th centuries. But there is another region that still needs our attention if we are going to understand the full impact of the reformation during the Renaissance. It's a place whose most famous son, at least from this period he called a septured isle.
