Blake's Copper Plate
Blake wrote backwards in mirror writing using an acid-resistant varnish. Then he would wash the surface of the copper plate with acid, which melts the surface down. He'd add watercolour, washes and so forth, sometimes gold leaf. So long and complicated and painting process, yes. It's as much a painting drawing as it is a declaration of the intent for what's inside the book.
