Is There a Fundamental, Essential Differential Between Mind and Body?

In the meditations, it is very clear that this sense of a fundamental, essential distinctness between mind and body comes out of the application of the method of sceptical doubt. But in another sense, there's a way in which this sense of mind and body fits in two broader cultural contexts, particularly theological ones. Because what it suggests is that if the mind is essentially immaterial, then a belief in the immortality of the soul is entirely consistent with the basic principles of first philosophy. Something which is essentially non material is indivisible.
