Musical Notation and Dissonance

Music was written to be read in six note segments called hexichords, which you superimposed on to the octave scale. Upshot of this musical style was that the aim was to sound as cheekily out of tune as possible. Composers like bird wilkes tompkins were interested in exploiting the scrunchiness inherent in the hexichord. Elliot is what tey calls a 'view from the other end of the telescope'
