Introduction
Epicureanism was one of the major philosophical schools of ancient greece. It was founded in the fourth century b c by epicurus, an athenian who taught that the aim of human life was pleasure. His followers were wary of politics and religion, cast off their fear of death and stressed the importance of friendship. They offer a radical view of the universe that anticipated far later scientific discoveries such as darwinian evolution and even quantum mechanics.
