How to Write Emotionally Powerful Scenes
The reason an emotional scene is on the nose in the first place is because the author has failed to look past the obvious choices for the scene. The bottom line here is that readers cringe when they know the author is trying to make them feel a certain way and failing. Often, cringy scenes result when writers want to create a certain type of scene but aren't willing to really go there.
