All self-reported salary information is biased. It'll always probably go up. I actually recommend not putting your salary information to your own team of two or three people. But if other people do it, feel free to benefit from it. There's a ton of information about how this works at Google. A lot of it is just in random form posts from Google engineers. The advantage of working at one of those companies is you have a lot more information going into what competing offers look like.
