The East India Company's History
The tea act removed tariffs which the east india company had to pay to the british government for tea imports. But it also meant the colonists had to pay a threepence per pound duty on the new british tea coming in. In 17 73, the same year that the t act was passed by parliament, additional laws were enacted, which gave thebritish government more oversight of its involvement in india. This was the first step in what would eventually lead to the bittish government formally taking over governments of india as a colony but for now,. the company was still in charge of the day to day responsibilities of its indian territories.
