The movie was supposed to be released on April 24th of 2020. They delayed it supposedly due to COVID. A lot of its audience is not going to know a single thing about any of these facts that you just mentioned and will assume that this is giving a fairly accurate portrayal of the American South both now and then. And given the fact that I wouldn't even call this a horror movie, I would call it fetish, a fetish film.
