The Importance of Taking Both Boxes

Theory of evidential decision theory says that when a rational agent is confronted with a set of possible actions, they should select the action with the highest news value. In other words, it recommends to do what you would most want to learn that you're going to do or had done. Here's an example from a game show where contestants are presented with two boxes: Box A always contains $1,000 and Box B will either be empty or contain $1 million. The host has already made a prediction about what you'regoing to do so your decision now won't change what's in the boxes.
