Karen Armstrong took solace in T.S. Eliot's poem, Ash Wednesday. This poetry evokes a passage through spiritual despair and it framed her 2004 autobiography. The center of that poem is when Eliot says, because I do not hope to turn again, consequently I rejoice, having to construct something upon which to rejoice.
