"I dumped down my tolerance out there on the road and that was a great detox. Now I am back to my original levels of just constant stimulation," he says. "You still have a right to feel pain, emotional pain when your life may not be as traumatic as somebody I grew up in a developing country where, you know, everything's taken from them."
Norm MacDonald did an Ask Me Anything (AMA) on Reddit in 2018, and when asked what life's purpose is he said:
"Well, it depends on your view I suppose but it's been my experience is that life's purpose is to suffer. To abide the inevitable pain and to bear it in a noble way."
For many, particularly in the West, there's this notion that if someone "pays their dues," then one day they'll be able to do what they truly want to do. Their entire life they've been running, even chasing this horizon of retirement: the "dream" of just sitting on a beach all day. Then they can relax.
