The Open Market Sales Scheme (OMSS) of the Food Corporation of India

The food corporation of India is in charge of procurement of the grains and other agricultural commodities for which the government announces a minimum support price. The open market sales scheme (OMSS) allows them to release grain from their stock so that they can control market prices through this. There are two kinds of OMSS, one is to sell directly to the state and then the other is to sell to private vendors,. Private traders who are expected then to release it in the market so that the supply in the market is augmented as a result.
