The Bonus Expeditionary Force (BEF)
The BEF, the bonus expeditionary force, is a callback to the American expeditionary force that landed in France. As word of the BEF spreads, veterans from every corner of the country pack up their families and head for the capital. Walter Waters gave his men three rules, no panhandling, no liquor, and no radical talk. In October 1922, flanked by some 30,000 black shirts, Mussolini marched on Rome, seizing control of the government.
