Sidgwick's Utilitarianism

Sidgwick was a hedonistic utilitarian. That means that the good to be maximised is pleasure or happiness. Every act we do ought to be judged in terms of whether it produces best consequences. He also discusses Common Sense Morality or Intuitionism, an idea that we intuit a range of principles including 'do not lie' But Sidgwick argues that these positions don't really stand on itself once you examine them and clarify the principles.
