Brahms and the Schumanns
Brahms met the schumanns for the first time on september 30, 18 53. Robert had already begun to exhibit the signs of the mental illness that would take over in the following year. Brahms continued writing an f sharp minor sonata that he dedicated to clara. He felt that none of his pieces yet were worthy of being dedicat to robert. And robert also wrote a joint sonata for joseph jahim, the f a e sonata, spelling out joahim's motto, frei abe einzam, or, free but lonely.
