Are You Talking About Indian Nationalism?
I think it is very complacent to believe that matters or issues are settled, he says. The message for us in India as well as for citizens of liberal democracies anywhere in the world is that you cannot take your state of affairs for granted and we have to defend what is good in our society every day. There is a certain virial nationalism which is out there which is powerful which has a metaphor of strength of youthfulness vigor and definitely attractive to a lot of people. I don't see any political leader defining internationalism in that sense if you see the rise of the Hindutva but the surrender of the secularists who had other views now.
The task of nation-building did not end with our founders, and does not stop at our politicians. It's up to us to build the India we want to see.
