Representative Government Isn't What Rules You
Hobbes says that the thing you can rely on is not being a prince, but on your own fear. So his notion of one alone, he transforms or universalizes in what he calls the state of nature. It isn't best that you elect representatives to represent your views to the government, but that you elect the government. That is what is new in modern as opposed to medieval representation.
