Many of the problems we try to solve as a society are inherently difficult. But if you can re define the problem and address the root cause, at least you may have some options. i would say this is one of the extraordinary powers of mathematics, to look in on itself and understand its limitations. We believe by their very nature the problem cannot avoid having to go through all the hard work of trying all the different possibilities.
