Modernity has been able to achieveor tell itself, that it's superior to other cultures. It does that by bundling up this ar a sar like complexity of ina world into what he calls purified categories. He diagnoses this as first taking place in the seventeenth centuryan we could come on to the book that inspired him to write his own. What the moderns do is they bundle up a all sorts of hybrid connections that are really going on into categories like nature and society. We have these highly purified, rarefied categories that are very, very useful.
