On the eve of the war, Tony Blair set out his justification for the invasion. He said they would be able to take Baghdad without a bloodbath and that in the end the Iraqis would be celebrating. It's entirely ungracious, even for his critics, not to acknowledge that tonight he stands as a larger man and a stronger Prime Minister as a result. And so it was that on the 19th of March 2003, Britain joined the US and Coalition forces in the air attacks that began the invasion and occupation of Iraq.
