Is Hyperphocus a Superpower?

Stephanie: Do you feel like you have a super power in a sense? I'm to hear your perspective. The big one for me every day is having extremely limited energy. Some of the stuff that comes with being on the spectrum, i love it. But there's also a penalty on the other side as well.

O, that's very interestingandthen i want to ask you a question. If it's too personal, please let me know. Youknow, nothing, we nothing. Nothing. Oka, oka,
Speaker 1
cause i really ket, one inch. It's one inch. Waoa ha ha ha ha hai. Cu, that out.
Speaker 2
That's taing an, stephen, that's the there's one thing that's going to stayis t a ha ha ha aa.
Speaker 1
That's so funny.
Speaker 2
Eigan,
Speaker 1
that's forton. Hilaris,
Speaker 2
no, nearly. Ta, no, no, i will don't worry. I like to keep these like just raw. You know, it's just a, i like these very conversational things. Just c younow, it's just really cool, like we all sharedike so many things, i feel, like, as humans. And like this is like the front part of it, unist, getting
Speaker 1
to know somebody, like their sense of humor, you know.
Speaker 2
Im, soo, you're open about being on the spectrum, you know, a, you have asburgers, right? Im, and im, so i'm curious, like, do you think that is, like, the way i perceive that is, i don't, i view it as a super power that that folks have. You know, it's like, it it, you know, i have very little exposure to it. I've had some friends that are on the spectrum, but i don't really understand it well. But the one thing that
Speaker 1
now be wic we sas were probably on the spectrum, probably, right? Because, like theman
Speaker 2
a, no, like hyperphocus is is attributed to to that, you know, being able to ke solve difficult problems on the fly, like i would be like shot t. How some people can basically, like, they almost have unlimited data base in their brain, and they can just go through all the variables andlike, oce, here's the answer. Nd, like, what the hell just happen? Like, i don't know how you arrive to the solution so quickly. Also, like the logical, you know, like the illogical approach, and being unpaced by im like, irrational emotions. I feel like it's another advantage that folks on the spectrum seem to have. Like, do you think about that often? Do you feel like you have a super power in a sense? I'm to hear your perspective.
Speaker 1
It's a good question. I would say, technically, you know, there's an aspect that's a super power, but there's also a penalty on the other side as well. You know, some o ths i have, for example, i mean, 95 % of the stuff that comes with being on the spectrum, i love it. It really helps in life. You know, i have an excellent life. I'm fulfilled, satisfied, happy, healthy, but great relationships, great connection wth all the boxes that you'd want to tick generally in life are a ti. And i think a lot of that's come down to my approach, in my way of seeing a lot of stuff. But there's five %. And the big one for me every day is having extremely limited energy. So i have two speeds at honor off. And even just for example, this conversation, maybe maybe itl 60, 90 minutes, give orl take, let's call ita. I'll feel the effects of this for the next few days. It's going to be harder to get videos done. Imd gong to be more tired. My brains not all going to be there. Ah, so i have it. Things sat for most people don't seem to take any energy. Deciding wat to have for lunch, et cetera. It actually drains me. It's like i have a tiny cup of energy and other people have a bucket. Every day. T's have to be very selective about how i spend my little cup of energy. Ah, and so that's probably the biggest challenge that comes with it. And i can push through that. I've done that for years. I spent place though, the first 30 plus years of my life perpetually burnt out, becase i didn't realize this about myself. I just keep pushing through, but it just gets harder to get through each day and become a little bit more miserable a long the way. So i figured out a lot more recently, i really have to manage my energy. Ah. And so the one thing that have to get done every day tifito, quite simple. And then anything else on top of that, ty n't get a little bit more dump, that's a bonus from there. You know, i have a lot of routines and habits that ive built. I don't cook food at all. Too much energy thinking about and cooking and cleaning iliter haven't cooked the meal, like, five years apart from dates. A bit different ut a, just something like that. And living in the city right now, lots of things that are convenient near by. Doesn't have to take a huge amout of time or enegy to do a lot of things in life. So i've streamed my my entire existence around crating for years, every day now. And i've had to eliminate a lot of things or dramatically reduce a lot of things that i would otherwise, in abnormally, have had, because i realizethis limitation. With my energy and legaset, i can push through it, but it gets alittle bit more miserable as i keep pushing forward. That's a big limitation there. But i do have a pretty unique perspective about things. I'm pretty relentless with my focus. You know, if i want to do something, i'm going to do it o tally, do whatever it takes to get it done, you know, within the bounds of ethics itself, you know, but outside of that. Now, if it just involves determination on hard work, ad is important to me, i'll get it done. So and yet, i've been able to focus very actually, one of the other things about being on the spectrum is wit tot have special interests. Wer just go really into something, and it just so turns out, you know, one of my earlier special interests in my twenties investing, becoming financially independent. So i went from here to a sort of expert level within two or three years, in terms of investing in real estate in australia. I just went bezerk and read tens of thousands of posts, like a hundred plus books, just went crazy. And then was able to that an pivot into a business, doing finance, ecause i got so good at it, and blaba bar. And then tesla became another sort of special interest even before then, but been fokst on tesewale, and now it's turned into a pretty productive, mutuive channel of got a career now that i didn't need or expect or plan, that's just come out of having that interest and that ability to really go deep on one subject.
