Gay people had a singular advantage that many racial minorities do not. Gay people were embedded within the homes and communities of those who thought gay people were an abomination. Parents with gay kids often had to grapple with the form of cognitive dissonance. Many people have changed their attitudes towards the group because a child came out. And yet, as we noted earlier, implicit biases against old people have hardly budged.
