I wanted to ask just a little about technique because a lot of your books involve not only intense characterization and plot, but world building. When you go into a book like what became silo, what happens first? You have a plot, a premise, a character. Do you know the whole story beforehand before you write the first sentence? Like what's going on in your head? I think a lot of things pull in the same direction concurrently. It's like writing a dog sled.
