The occupation of Vilnus was brutal. Thousands of Jews were murdered. Bela Hazan went underground to smuggle food, weapons and information between various Jewish ghettos. She was considered to have an Aryan appearance rather than facial features which might have revealed her Jewish heritage. For an undercover agent, this was a great advantage.
