Increasing Student Choice in Higher Education Is a Good Idea
Charles eliot suggested in 18 84 that in education, as elsewhere, it is the fittest that survives. He was himself an epigone of herbert spencer, the guy who coined social darwinism. It seems to me that if we looked back at that as we're trying to come to terms with what our higher education is actual on,. i'm reminded one of our very first episodes david alox with charles butterworth - about how a dean let butterworth's class on arabic go with one student. And i just thought the vision of that dean to realize the possible academic value of this course for one student, that this is worth keeping alive somehow.
