Otto, the first of the autonian dynasty in germany. He becomes both a german king and holy roman emperor. And we see a france rising to become a serious regional power alongside germany,. Now i haven't mentioned england much. But that changes too in the high middle ages. It changes because of the emergence of a new and really unexpected player on the european scene. A large group of vikings actually raided and settled in northern france. They were able to basically extort the french monarchy to hand them over a big chunk of northern france as dukes. These vikings came to be known as normans.
