How Hard Should You Train?
The general idea is you start the masocycle with more reps and reserve, so you're not training really to failure at all in that first week. And then gradually you just get closer and closer to failure as you approach the end of that maso cycle. The only real logical place to start is at the very low end of what definitely guarantees you some gains. Then, because progression has to occur somehow, you make things harder and harder and harder, and than eventually cumulative fatigue will catch up to you one way or another.
