Is There a Difference Between Vertical Integration and Horizontal Integration?
Vertical systems tend towards perfection, horizontal systems tend towards fragmentation. We need inputs first and foremost because that's how the browser works as opposed to everything created out of divs. By owning the whole problem end-to-end, you can get to much better solutions. I'm just arguing for 600 million input points rather than one megabyte or fiveabytes is going to be a lot more palatable.
